Thing 13
24 10 2009As a parent of very busy teenagers who cannot drive, as well as a full time educator, being able to attend a virtual conference is ideal for me. I am not the type of personality that needs interaction with people to learn – so this method of discovery is hand-tailored for my situation.
I scanned a few of the topics before choosing one on a collaborative wiki. Two teachers in two different states paired classes and students to create a unit on adjectives using reading, writing, and the web. The lesson is well plannedĀ and executed. I did come away with an idea to modify my own plan for a wiki in my advanced art class. Instead of having the students critique masterworks alone, I intend to find a class of similarly-abled student artists with whom I can collaborate on group critique. I never would have thought of this idea had I not watched the conference video.
I’m definitely planning to seek out more online video tools such as this one.

I agree with you. I can really relate to not aving enough hours in a day. Therefore, attending a virtual conference online allows me to learn from the comforts of my own home. It really shows us how technology has come a long way.
I thought the very same about video conferencing! Sometimes life (like with busy non-driving teens or busy little ones) just doesn’t leave room for taking all the interesting classes we would like to! I didn’t have any idea that this was available…I plan to attend often!
